HISTORY

Octavian
Few men need an introduction, and Octavian, otherwise known as Augustus Caesar, is one of those men. The famed adopted son of Julius Caesar, Octavian was the first emperor of the Roman Empire, overseeing its rapid expanse. Under Octavian, Rome was thrust into a long lasting golden age, cementing him and his empire as one of the greatest in all history. Interestingly however, Octavian's early days are by tfar the most interesting to me. On his great-uncle Caesar's death, his status as rightful heir of Caesar was challenged by almost all in Rome; and using only his wit, with courage, Octavian would need to wage an over 10 year campaign to secure his right. Octavian was diefied upon his death. His story serves as a reminder that no matter what one may believe, until you have the courage to seek it - others will try to take it away from you.
SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Kurt Gödel
Godel was a revolutionary logician whose incompleteness theorems fundamentally changed our understanding of mathematics and formal systems. Gödel proved that in any formal system adequate for number theory, there are true statements that cannot be proved within the system. In layman's terms, Godel proved there were things that might be true, we'd never be able to prove. I had once read Godel had stumbled across his infamous theorem, when attempting to find a proof for the existence of God. Godel often spent large swaths of times in pursuit of the the ever elusive gap where it often seemed God was hiding. Godel lived his life in complete pursuit of truth, searching eagerly for his creator. Ultimately, Godel would become highly paranoid. With the death of his wife, Godel refused to eat, and died. Regardless of the tragic end of Godel - his absolute unwavering dedidication to the pursuit of truth made him a great man. In a world of falsehoods, deception, and deceit; fidelity is the beautiful rose that arises from the concrete.
